April has officially been dubbed National Car Care Month by the Car Care Council. Continue reading for some general maintenance and cleaning tips so you can ensure your Volkswagen is running smoothly and safely for the summer months ahead.

Car Care Tips for Your Volkswagen

Check Wipers and Lights

Springtime brings unexpected rain showers which makes April the perfect month to optimize visibility in wet driving conditions. Salt from winter roads can build up on the headlights and brakelights making them dim and difficult to see. Scrub and polish your lights using a specialized cleaner so you can both see and be seen clearly in rainy conditions.

Windshield wipers are easy to clean and inexpensive to replace. Check the condition of your wipers and plan to replace them if necessary before the next big rainstorm. Be sure to top off your wiper fluid before the spring pollen arrives so you can keep your windshield free of yellow streaks.

Check Wheels, Tires, and Brakes

While it’s easy to remember to check your tires and brakes before the first winter snowfall arrives, checking your wheels, tires, and brakes in the spring will ensure they are ready to take-on your first summer road trip. Check to ensure your tires have a safe amount of tread and that they are adequately inflated. Check the condition of your brake rotors and calipers to see if they will need to be replaced. If you are in need of tires, brakes, or rotors, we offer Volkswagen parts to get your car running like new.

Even if your brakes and tires look to be in good condition, schedule an appointment to have your tires rotated and your wheels aligned so that the tires wear evenly and to maintain a higher gas mileage.

Check Oil and Filters

The check engine light should not be a reminder to check or change your oil. Without adequate amounts of fresh, clean oil, particles such as dirt and grime can circulate through your engine causing irreparable damage and taking years off of the life of your car. If you can’t remember the last time you had your oil or filters changed, schedule service today so that we can help you create and maintain a routine maintenance schedule.
