The Livingston township was originally inhabited by Europeans in 1699 by settlers from Newark who wanted to move westward, and it was officially incorporated in 1813. One of the township’s claims to fame is being home to the last surviving Harrison Cider Apple tree, of the Newark cider apples from the 18th century.
